Freeze! Creating an Intergalactic Shooter

Welcome to Chapter 5, Freeze! Creating an Intergalactic Shooter. If you have been following this book up until now, you should have one pretty cool game under your belt; if not, we're about to step it up with game number two. In this chapter, we're going to learn about the second game, a top-down arcade-style intergalactic shooter, so brace yourself. We'll also cover some other import settings, which will build upon what we covered in Angel Cakes (our first game). Later in this chapter, we will add a bang, by learning about Unity's animation system, to create an explosion.

Throughout this chapter, we will cover the following:

  • An overview of game #2 and the shooter genre
  • How to set up the Unity project for game #2
  • How to import assets (intermediate import settings)
  • Introduction to the animation system within Unity
  • Creating a basic "explosion" animation for our game
  • Setting up the player controller

By the end of this chapter, you will:

  • Be able to import and set up assets for a shooting game
  • Have a basic understanding of Unity's animation system
  • Know how to create basic animations from Sprites

Excited? Well, me too, let us dive into creating an intergalactic experience!
