Time for action — opening up and navigating around your group

Let's have a look around your group:

  1. In the My Groups section, open up the group that you would like to navigate around by clicking on its name. Janet decides to open up the Clinical Trials group that she created:

  2. Now, you will see all the options available for your group in a menu bar. The tabs are About, Members, Forums, Pages, Share, and Files. Try clicking on each of these to get used to navigating around your group:
  3. Return to the default group page by clicking on the About tab.
  4. The About page gives you an overview of the group. It includes a description of what the group is about, who administers it and moderates the forums, the group type, when it was created, how many members, pages, files, and folders there are, and latest forum posts. You can also edit or delete the group from the About page.
  5. The About page is actually another type of page that belongs to your group. You could think of it like the profile page for the group. You can edit this page by clicking on the Pages tab. You will see that you have the Group homepage page there:

  6. And that's all there is to navigating your group!

What just happened?

You just had a brief introduction to what a group looks like and how to navigate it by using the group tabs. You also had a look at the group's About page and how it is just another type of special page in Mahara. You can use the About page to give group members an overview of what's going on in your group. Make this page as attractive as possible, it's a really useful way of communicating with your group members.
