Time for action — embed your LinkedIn profile in a page

Let's see how you can embed your LinkedIn profile in a Mahara page:

  1. You will need to have your own LinkedIn profile to complete this procedure. If you don't have one already, visit LinkedIn (http://www.LinkedIn.com) and get yourself set up. Take some time to fill out your professional profile there. Add a photo, introduction, some work experiences, and skills. LinkedIn will give you instructions for completing your profile. If you have a LinkedIn profile just move onto the next step.
  2. Log in to LinkedIn. You need to find the URL of your public profile page. Open up your profile page. In the box to the top left that shows your profile image and profile summary, you should see a field labeled as Public Profile, copy the URL listed there. If you don't see a link, you will need to enable your LinkedIn profile for public sharing.
  3. Open up Mahara (either http://foliofor.me or your own installation if you have this block installed). Start creating a new page, or edit an existing page.
  4. In editing view, click on the Profile tab. Drag the LinkedIn Profile block icon onto your page. You will see the options box pop up:

  5. In the Enter your public profile URL field, paste the URL that you copied in step 2. You can also choose whether to show a full public profile or just the summary. Let's tick the box to show the full profile. Also, you can decide whether to show connections or not. Click on Save.
  6. You should see your full LinkedIn profile embedded in your page. Here's a snapshot of Richard Hand's profile in a Mahara page:

Neil from Training for Work thinks:

What just happened?

So far I've seen Mahara as a personal, reflective walled garden where our learners can put together their files, plan, journals, and pages to document their learning progress.

We have promoted LinkedIn as a tool that our learners should consider using in order to show off their skills and to connect with potential employers.

The fact that the two can now be used in tandem by embedding LinkedIn profiles into Mahara pages, is great news.
