Summary

The control and security of our privacy is being spread over many new technologies. As we become more connected and part of the global economy, we will be faced with more threats. To combat these threats, consumers must understand the tools and techniques available to them. It is no longer enough to simply depend on companies and governments to protect us. In many cases, these entities will be the downfall of personal security. The everyday user must learn how he will be attacked and how to defend his information if he hopes to have any privacy in the coming wired environment.

The one thing that will doom all privacy rights is consumer acceptance. If the public accepts the government's and corporations' slow destruction of our rights to privacy, it will be we who are to blame. Organizations such as the EFF are out there fighting the battle for the rest of us, and we need to become active participants in our own fate. We as a community have the ability to rise up and say we need to be individuals and not databases of profiles and marketing fodder. Privacy will live or die by our hands.
