Mentors Mean More

It is clear that mentoring programs are an excellent way to enhance employee development, but it is important to add that these programs are also excellent sources of recognition.

When management provides employees with a mentor, one immediate message is that management truly cares about the employees and their success. With a mentor, management is making an extra effort to help the employees learn, grow, and achieve, and employees view this as a highly rewarding vote of confidence in their skills, abilities, and potential.

In addition, because of the one-on-one nature of mentoring, a mentor utilizes one of today’s most important educational concepts, namely training that is tailored to the individual’s learning style. This leads to accelerated learning, success, and the recognition and rewards that soon follow. A mentoring program is also rewarding to the mentors because they typically receive considerable recognition, along with extra pay.
