Keep Your Eye on the Wall

You can dramatically increase the positive impact of any reward by simultaneously providing some publicity. An outstanding way to do this is to designate one wall for employee recognition.

It can be called the “Wall of Fame,” and there should be nothing on it except items that focus on employee rewards, recognition, and appreciation. This is where you would place photos, announcements, and commendations regarding your employees’ outstanding work and accomplishments. The Wall should be in an area with a good deal of employee traffic, and employees should be able to stop and look at the postings without creating a bottleneck.

The Wall of Fame turns any single reward into a double reward. The first is the reward itself, and the second is having a photo and write-up on this wall. Employees sense high levels of recognition every time they see themselves on it, and the rewards keep coming when coworkers mention that they saw them on “the Wall.”
