There are times when you have an employee who has been consistently performing well, and you would like to reward him or her. This reward is not attached to the attainment of a specific goal, but rather is a reward for this employee’s excellent long-term performance.

This is the perfect time to use a more random approach in selecting a reward and pick something different that you think your employee will appreciate. For example, this might be a piece of art or furniture for the employee’s home, a unique collector’s item, or perhaps an antique.

The purpose of this recognition is to thank your employee and demonstrate that you are truly satisfied and pleased with all aspects of his or her performance. This type of general recognition is a pleasant surprise for your employee, and it demonstrates that your interest extends beyond attainment of one measurable goal.
