Summary

In this chapter we’ve covered the primary clients for Windows users to connect to Microsoft Lync Server 2013. We’ve seen what features are available in terms of IM, audio/video conferencing, and application sharing. As users become more and more familiar with the application, this chapter will serve as a guide for how users access various functions within the system and should help ease the transition to this application.

Administrators should take advantage of the troubleshooting and best practices offered in this chapter to try to provide for the best end-user experience possible. Ultimately, the success of a Microsoft Lync Server 2013 deployment will be measured by the end users, and taking advantage of the information in this chapter will help increase the odds of having happy end users.

It is useful for administrators to understand the limitations of the various clients users can be trained and informed about the different features available. This can be especially useful when external users who attach via the web-based clients are involved. By knowing when to use various client options, administrators and help desk staff can guide users toward the best decisions on how to meet their needs.
