Dynamic Federation

Dynamic federation is a purely automatic feature in which two users in different organizations can simply type in each other’s SIP addresses and start communicating immediately. This works well if both organizations have deployed Edge Servers, published the necessary SRV records in public DNS, and used public certificates that are trusted by the opposite party’s Edge Server. In many cases this just works and requires no administrator intervention. The user experience is similar to sending an email because users don’t have to ask their administrators for permission to contact a third party. Organizations can enable dynamic federation by publishing the necessary SRV records in public DNS and enabling partner domain discovery within the Lync Server Control Panel.
