DNS load balancing is the preferred load-balancing method for all Lync Server components, excluding the Lync Web Services, which still require a Hardware Load Balancer (HLB). Table 15.7 outlines the DNS records that would be required to provide DNS load balancing for a single Enterprise Edition pool.
The important takeaway from this table is that you should ensure that DNS entries for your Enterprise Edition pool FQDN are properly defined. A record for the pool FQDN should be entered for each Front End Server in the pool. This results in DNS Round Robin requests to each Front End Server in the pool. Lync Server’s built-in distribution logic handles the load distribution after users connect.
