Lync Server 2010 introduced basic browser capabilities. Users who joined meetings through a web browser were able to view and present content, as well as initiate a dial-out to a PSTN phone number to join through audio. Lync Server 2013 introduces a new experience for users in the web browser. Lync Web App provides web-based conferencing functionality to users, including audio and video, without a requirement for a Lync client to be installed. Refer to Table 26.1 for Lync Web App capabilities.
Microsoft’s goal was to enable a seamless experience between Lync Web App and the Lync 2013 client. Short of a few supportability gaps in older operating systems or web browsers, users can experience full functionality in the browser.
