Virtual Meeting Rooms

Integration with a Polycom RMX was traditionally done as a signaling gateway, but Polycom has expanded on the native registration concept by allowing RMX-hosted Virtual Meeting Rooms (VMRs) to also register to Lync. A VMR is a virtual conference that exists on an RMX either persistently or for a period of time, but is a configured meeting space where conferences can be conducted and third-party endpoints or Lync endpoints can join the conference at any time.

Polycom’s RMX has the capability to register the VMRs as a Lync endpoint and provide presence to other users, enabling them to see whether a VMR is currently occupied. Organizations can create multiple VMRs that users can leverage as huddle spaces, or virtual conference rooms for meetings.

This integration is accomplished by defining the RMX as a trusted application within a trusted application pool. A Lync-enabled Active Directory account is then provisioned for each VMR with a username that matches the name of the VMR. The password is irrelevant because the RMX will act on behalf of the VMR user accounts through the trusted application definition, and register the users with Lync to provide presence updates.
