Chapter 19. Lync Native Video and Data Conferencing

Although video and data conferencing technology is not new to Microsoft UC, Lync 2013 introduces many enhancements to this functionality. Lync 2013 allows more endpoints to participate in high-definition video conferences, while at the same time allowing administrators greater control over video conferencing usage. Lync 2013 also expands on the existing application-sharing and desktop-sharing functionality by introducing enhanced PowerPoint presenting capabilities that support animations, transitions, and synchronous video playback from within PowerPoint presentations. All of this functionality is integrated into the Lync 2013 client.

The new functionality introduced with Lync 2013 allows users to have a more immersive UC experience, while at the same time introducing new administrative and planning challenges for IT administrators. This section provides details on what this new functionality is, what is required to implement it, and how to properly manage it.
