Installing a Mediation Server in Lync Server 2013 creates only a minimal number of Windows services. The following services will be visible within the Services MMC after the Mediation Server installation:
• Lync Server Centralized Logging Service
• Lync Server Mediation Server
• Lync Server Replica Replicator Agent
• SQL Server (RTCLOCAL)
• SQL Server Agent (RTCLOCAL)
Note
The SQL Server Agent services are installed, but set to disabled.
The Lync Management Shell can also be used to check the current service status. Open the Lync Management Shell and run the following command:
Get-CsWindowsService -ExcludeActivityLevel
Review the status report:
Status Name
------ ----
Running REPLICA
Running RTCCLSAGT
Running RTCMEDSRV
Lastly, the state of a Mediation Server can always be viewed through the Lync Server Control Panel. To check the status of a Mediation Server Pool, perform the following steps:
1. Open the Lync Server Control Panel.
2. Click Topology.
3. Highlight the server in question and click Properties.
4. Make sure that the green play button appears in the Service Status column. A red square indicates that a required service is not running.
