Placement and Configuration

Placement of the reverse proxy server follows the same concept as the Edge Server, so wherever a Lync Edge Server is deployed, a reverse proxy in that location should be used. This becomes especially important when users leverage web conferencing because the display of content comes through the reverse proxy. As with the Edge Server, optimizing that traffic path results in a better user experience—especially for users joining conferences via Lync Web App.

Setting up the reverse proxy is similar to an Edge Server. Generally the reverse proxy is placed in a perimeter network and has two network adapters: one internal-facing and one external-facing. To reach internal server subnets, route statements must also be configured. Some products also have the ability to use a single network adapter while acting as a reverse proxy.
