Many of the configuration policies used for peer-to-peer video sessions are also used for video conferences in Lync Server 2013. This is where the use of the conferencing policy actually makes sense, in conferencing scenarios. Administrators can manage video conferencing settings and bandwidth through conferencing policies in addition to Call Admission Control. These settings can be managed using the following:
• Get-CSConferencingPolicy
• Set-CSConferencingPolicy
• New-CSConferencingPolicy
As a reminder, the new attributes introduced with Lync 2013 are as shown here:
• VideoBitRateKb—This setting specifies the maximum video bit rate in Kbps for video that is sent by a user.
• TotalReceiveVideoBitRateKb—This setting specifies the maximum allowed bit rate in Kbps for all the video streams that the client receives. It specifies a combined total of all video streams, except for any panoramic video streams. This is important for conferencing scenarios, specifically with Gallery View.
• AllowMultiView—This setting specifies whether users can schedule conferences that allow the Lync 2013 Gallery View, showing up to five active video streams. This setting applies to the organizer of the conference, not to the attendees.
• EnableMultiViewJoin—This setting specifies whether users can join conferences that allow the Lync 2013 Gallery View. This setting is applied at the per-user level, meaning you could have a conference with users who can see the Gallery View, and users who are not allowed to see the Gallery View.
Note
If you enable Gallery View video in Lync conferences, TotalReceiveVideoBitRateKb
must not be set below 420Kbps, or Gallery View will not work.
• MaxVideoConferencingResolution—This setting is for legacy clients only, but it does apply to Lync 2013 conferences. In scenarios with coexistence with Lync 2010 or older clients, administrators should consider configuring this setting as well.
For more details on how these configuration options coexist with Call Admission Control, see the earlier section “Configuring-Peer to-Peer Video Options.”
