Chapter 11. Dependent Services and SQL

Lync Server 2013, like many other Microsoft applications, depends on a number of infrastructure services to function properly. Lync Server integrates with Active Directory to store configuration information on user objects, and DNS is required for name resolution services. Server certificates are used to secure connections between the various components of Lync. There are also a number of network dependencies that have an impact on both the performance and the functionality of Lync. A new requirement for Lync Server 2013 is the Office Web Apps Server. Finally, SQL Server is used as the database platform to store Lync information. This chapter provides details on these dependencies and helps Lync Server administrators understand and configure these items to ensure a healthy Lync environment.
