Security principals in Microsoft Dynamics CRM are users or groups that can own or access records. Table 4-2 describes the two types of security principals in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
Table 4-2. Security Principals
Name | Description |
---|---|
User | A user in the system who has assigned security roles that determine his or her access. |
Team | Teams do not have security roles, but you can share objects. The actual access to the record is determined by the share privileges |
You might expect that a team can own a record, but only users can own a record in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Instead of changing a record’s owner to a team, you share a record with a team, and then define the privileges associated with the share. For example, you can share account record A with a team, granting the team members read and write privileges, but share account record B with the same team and grant the team members only read privileges.
