a wooden cigar box
some scrap wood (enough to supply two 3/4″ blocks)
two 1″ brass wood screws
a pair of AA batteries and a battery holder
several toggle switches (This design uses the toggle switch three-pack sold by RadioShack as part #275-322.)
a “normally off” momentary push-button switch (e.g., a doorbell switch)
nine LEDs (Stick to red and yellow, unless you plan on using a 9-volt battery and doing some math.)
three 47 ohm resistors (These have yellow-violet-black stripes; resistor codes are discussed fully in the appendix.)
a piezo buzzer (RadioShack part #273-059 is readily available, but any piezo buzzer you come across will work, provided it can be driven by 3 volts DC.)
22- or 24-gauge insulated wire (Either stranded or solid-core is fine; using two colors—red and black are traditional—will make it easier to keep your connections straight later on.)
(optional) Velcro strips with self-adhesive backing
