Stompable Stomp Boxes

When you think of classic effects pedals, you likely imagine that little metal box with two knobs and a big, fat push-button stomp switch on top (hence the stomp box). Those push-on/push-off DPDT stomp switches are very hard to find and often pricey, so this project and the next use the hearty chromed DPDT switches from RadioShack. In practice, you can either use these effects in tabletop mode (flicking the switches by hand) or nudge them with your toe. If you are going to use these as stomp boxes, you’ll want a heartier case than the simple, sturdy, affordable “project enclosures” sold at RadioShack. For the classic stomp box look, get a die-cast aluminum small enclosure or project box made by Velleman Incorporated or Hammond Manufacturing. (For more on choosing an enclosure, flip to On Enclosures in Supplies.)
