pDAOs

pDAOs are decentralized (no single authority) and autonomous (self-sufficient). This means that they are community-based blockchain networks that are owned by participating enterprises. However, the operations, funding, and dispute resolutions are automatically taken care of by the chaincode that governs the autonomous permissioned organizations. Such a setup of the enterprise consortium will withdraw the need for a huge enterprise exercise in order to maintain and handle the operations of the consortium. All of the decisions are democratic, which is driven by the code that is handling the operation of the consortium. Such an enterprise consortium will define the operation and maintenance of the chaincode. Essentially, they will first define the constitution of the business network. Thereafter, the chaincode will be responsible for the automatic realization of the constitution. Every proposal, such as adding and removing a member, can be submitted as a transaction to the chaincode, which will take care of its execution on the blockchain itself. Such a community-driven blockchain network is for the blockchain, by the blockchain, and of the blockchain. Power is not in the hands of few; it is distributed, permissioned by the version of underlying permissioned network and chaincode for the specific use case, and autonomous.

I believe that pDAO might be the future for enterprise blockchain adoption. Such an enterprise consortium can be started with few participants. All of the legal certainty can be resolved with a legal structure, and differences can be resolved with arbitrators. Read my next book, Blockchain for Solution Designers, which extends and talks about pDAO in detail.
