OBP uses the Hyperledger Fabric history database to manage the ledger and present ledger transaction information in the console. Only chaincodes can access this history database and it cannot be exposed to any external applications to query for analytics. Analytics cannot be ignored in any business, even if they provide blockchain services. Hence, OBP integrates the rich history database to fulfill this requirement.

The rich history database is external to OBP and contains data about the blockchain ledger's transactions on the channels you select. You can integrate the rich history database into the OBP instance console and select the channels whose data needs to be captured in the database. Once the rich history database is enabled on a channel, then all the transactions on the channel sync to the database. This level of data collection makes the rich history database an excellent data source to generate analytics and visualization reports of the ledger activities. You can use any analytics tool, such as Oracle Analytics Cloud or Oracle Data Visualization Cloud Service, to access the rich history database and create analytics reports or data visualizations.

OBP only supports an Oracle database such as Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse or Oracle Database Cloud Service (ODCS) with OCI to create your rich history database.
