To enable DPM on a vSphere Cluster, perform the following steps:
- Using vSphere Web Client, log in to the vCenter Server.
- Select Hosts and Clusters on the Home screen.
- Click on vSphere Cluster and go to Configure | Services | vSphere DRS.
- Click on Edit in the top-right corner.
- In the Power Management section, select Manual or Automatic as Automation Level:
- Once you are done, click OK.
Note that once you are done with the Cluster configuration, you need to configure IPMI/iLO for each host as well.
- On the home screen of the vCenter Server, select Hosts and Clusters.
- Select the Host for which you want to enable IPMI/iLO (you should configure IPMI/iLO on all the hosts in your cluster).
- Click on the Configure tab and select Power Management under System.
- Click on Properties.
- Enter the Username, Password, BMC IP Address, and BMC MAC Address (use colons) fields. Click on OK. You will get immediate feedback if this were unsuccessful:
If you want to test the DPM configuration, carry out the following steps:
- Right-click on a powered host within the cluster, select Power, then select Enter Standby mode.
- Once complete, the host will have a moon icon next to the name.
- Right-click on the host, select Power, then select Power On.
- Click on the cluster containing the DPM-enabled cluster and go to the Configure tab.
- Select Host Options under Configuration.
- Verify that the host's Last Time Exited Standby option is updated with the most recent attempt and that it was successful.
