How to do it…

VMkernel uses a sliding scale to determine the Mem.MinFreePct threshold, based on the amount of RAM installed on the host, and it is automatic. However, if you need to change this behavior and set something on your own, follow these steps:

  1. Open vSphere Web Client.
  2. Log in to your vCenter Server.
  3. On your Home screen, select Hosts and Clusters.
  4. Choose the ESXi host where you want to perform this activity.
  5. Go to the Configure tab and click on Advanced System Settings.
  6. Scroll down to Mem.MemMinFreePct or search for it.
  7. Choose a value between 0 and 50, where 0 indicates automatic.

Here you can set the percentage of host memory to reserve for accelerating memory allocations when free memory is low, which means this percentage determines when you could start using memory reclamation techniques (besides TPS).
