About the Editor
Jean Ann Larson, PhD, is a healthcare executive with a deep background in performance
improvement, organization change, learning, and leadership. She holds a BS in industrial engi-
neering from Wichita State University, an MBA from the underbird Graduate School of
International Management, and a doctorate in organization change from Pepperdine University.
Jean Ann heads her own business and executive development consultancy, and has authored and
edited several books and articles including the 2002 predecessor to this book, Eective Guidebook
for Management Engineering (HIMSS Guidebook Series, ISBN 0-9704287-1-5).
Prior to starting her own rm, she was the vice president of clinical and quality services and
the EPMO at Childrens Medical Center Dallas and chief learning ocer for Beaumont Hospitals
in the Detroit area. She has also worked as an assistant hospital director, the director of manage-
ment systems, an operations analyst, and a management engineer. She is active in several of her
professional organizations and is the immediate past-president of the Society for Health Systems
of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
