Configuring endpoints for Traffic Manager with the weighted routing method

As mentioned earlier, creating any Traffic Manager profile looks similar except for specifying the routing method. So, in this section, we'll cover how to configure endpoints for weight traffic profile. Unlike the priority Traffic Manager, this one specifies a number that implies that weight of endpoint, but all the endpoints can work in an active-active mode.

To configure the endpoints for the weighted Traffic Manager, you need to perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Traffic Manager profile.
  2. Under SETTINGS, click on Endpoints. A new blade will be opened.
  3. Click on Add on the endpoints blade. A new blade will be opened wherein you need to specify the following:
    • Type: Here, mention the type of endpoints that would suit your needs.
    • Name: Here, specify a descriptive name for the endpoint.
    • Target resource type (for Azure endpoint type): Here, select the target resource type that would suit your needs.
    • Target resource (for Azure endpoint type): Based on the target resource type you have specified, you can select the resource with that type.
    • Weight: Specify the weight of the endpoint. The lower the number, the higher the weight. If multiple endpoints have the same weight, the traffic will be distributed evenly among them. Otherwise, the endpoint with the lower number would have more odds to distribute the traffic.

All the other types of endpoints can be added to the weighted Traffic Manager, the same as performance Traffic Manager endpoints, except with this type you will see that you need to specify a number for the weight for each endpoint type.
