When using such a model, you can get your infrastructure co-located in a facility with a cloud exchange. Such a model would enable you to have a virtual cross connection to the Microsoft cloud via the provider's Ethernet exchange.

That model would offer either Layer 2 cross connections, and you take care of the Layer 3 connections, or managed Layer 3 connections between your infrastructure and the Microsoft cloud.
