Acknowledgments

As much as it’s fun to think otherwise, it’s impossible to write a book like this without help. Having said that, I’d like to acknowledge the following people.

Thanks to Brooks Harris for his guidance through the minefield of OMF, EDLs, and HD workflows. I’m grateful to Jack Calaway for his personal notes concerning the early days of nonlinear video editing. No one else could have offered such a front-row history of the subject.

I appreciate Mike Poppleton’s contributions to the chapter on conformations, as well as his observations about EDLs and OMF. Isaac Sehayak was instrumental in sorting out picture cutting issues, and Daniel Ward and Graeme Nattress offered valuable insight into HD production procedures. Doron Sulliman contributed greatly to the section on Avid OMF exports. Yakov Gilad helped get the project started, and Paul Soucek provided priceless oversight and support as work progressed.

Thanks to Ruth Shek Yasur and Bill Stott for language assistance, and to Yisrael David, Gil Segal, Oliver Masciarotte, Doron Sulliman, and Barbara Alper for helping with screenshot production.

Avid screenshots are courtesy of Edit Studios, Tel Aviv. Pro Tools screenshots are courtesy of The Mix Room Ltd. and DB Studios, Tel Aviv. Sonic Studio, LLC, provided the soundBlade screenshot.

For their invaluable aid in reviewing and fact-checking, I’m grateful to Colin Alexander, Larry Blake, Matt Connolly, Todd Hooker, Justin Kim, Barend Onneweer, Rodger Pardee, and Brandon Walker. To the countless others who provided information, clarification, and direction, my sincere thanks.
