Chapter 10. Building Infrastructure Components

We've defined the strategic direction for our company's CRM program and identified our company-wide goals and objectives. We chose the project that best matched the characteristics for achieving successful results. We've identified the project team and managed to get everyone (sponsors, business leaders, and Information Technology) to participate in a project kick-off meeting where we focused on identifying the high-level business requirements for the project we've chosen.

We are ready to build each of the components, but we have to be careful. All the components must be developed and completed in parallel for the overall project to yield successful results. We will follow the same basic methodology for managing the development of each of the components so it will be easy to track progress across all four of the pieces. This will help ensure that all are ready to go at the same time because no single piece is much use without the other three.

The predetermined steps of this life cycle phase are not unique to CRM. Even the fact that there are four components is not unique to CRM. What is unique to CRM is what exactly makes up each of the four components. We are about to start the second phase of the CRM life cycle, building infrastructure, as you can see in Figure 10-1.

It's time to roll up our sleeves and get working on building each of the infrastructure components.
