This is the beginning of your journey into DMAIC—the Lean Six Sigma project execution road map. This part covers the first two phases—Define and Measure—giving you the process to follow, the tools to use, and the outcomes to achieve. In Define, you’re primarily concerned with selecting viable projects, completing plans for their execution, and creating a high-level map of how they function. In Measure, you’re further documenting your current process or processes, identifying their primary metrics (Y) to be improved, and establishing their performance baselines. Think of Define and Measure as your way of getting to know your process; once you do this, you’re in a position to make it change.
