SEMI-MODULAR
Another great path is to start with a semi-modular
synth. These often have all of the components
of a complete modular synthesizer. Still, many
connections between modules are “pre-patched,”
making it easy to get started. Plugging a cable
into a jack will bypass the wiring to create your
own new sounds.
Semi-modular synths often have a VCO,
envelope, VCA, and filter all in one case, including
a power supply. They’re typically less expensive
than buying all the modules individually — all the
essentials are already included.
