48 4. STABILITY OF TRIPPED VEHICLE ROLLOVER
critical lateral acceleration for rollover to happen. However, this 80% acceleration threshold
(A

) needs to be tuned for different vehicles with different vehicle parameters and suspension
characteristics. Statically, critical lateral acceleration is defined as the acceleration to make a
vehicle to rollover on a flat surface and described as .d=h/g.
ˆ

and measured lateral acceleration, the rollover index (RI) is defined as follows:

It can be seen that the RI can also describe the stability of tripped rollover from its deriva-
tion process.
4.3 SUMMARY
In conclusion, some efforts has been made to analyze actively control tripped rollover in some
special cases such as uneven roads and banked roads. However, there are many reasons for tripped
rollover, and the corresponding stress state of the vehicle is also very complex, it is very difficult to
give early warning and control of tripped rollover. In the future, we need to focus more research
on tripped rollover.
