How to save one month per year

Why This Matters

Communication takes too long, doesn’t it?

In fact, a recent McKinsey study found people spend only 39% of their week doing the day job (in other words, that’s three days per week doing “other stuff”. What a waste of time).

I’ve spent many years helping “unblock” companies’ communication. It makes a huge difference – you should see what it does to people’s engagement and productivity.

In the same way, you can “unblock” your communication, to give yourself lots more time. In fact, saving just one minute per day equates to four hours per year.*

So, to get an extra month (approximately 200 hours) per year, you “only” need to free up 50 minutes a day.

That sounds a lot. But this section will show you how to do it. Each chapter contains a time-saving technique. Simply write your savings at the end of each chapter. Then, total your savings, and see if you’ve saved a month.

It’s a great target to have. I mean, even if you spectacularly “failed” and only freed up a fortnight per year . . . well, you’ve just freed up a fortnight per year.

And what a boring fortnight it would’ve been.

*If you care, here’s the rationale: you work approximately 240 days per year (48 weeks × 5 days). There are 60 minutes in an hour. Therefore, to find annual hours, multiply daily minutes by 240/60 i.e. by 4. So 1 minute per day equates to 4 hours per year.
