The Group Work Session

Because it allows them to engage many people in the process quickly and cost-effectively, decision-makers often opt for the group workshop method of delivering feedback. Next, we describe two approaches we have found to be practical and engaging. The first is to conduct a workshop that focuses on creating an awareness of how others perceive the feedback recipient. The second is to conduct another type of workshop, one that builds on this awareness and provides skill-development activities to help people apply new behaviors back on the job. Research has shown that individuals who receive their feedback as part of a workshop with a competent, supportive facilitator will demonstrate increased use of certain behaviors and report the feedback to be of more value than those participants who receive only a printed feedback report.4 Additional examples of feedback displays and workshop designs are presented in the Resource A section at the end of the book.
