Preface

The 11th annual workshop of Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Science (NLPCS 2014) was held on 27–29 October, 2014 in Venice, hosted by the Department of Linguistic Studies, Ca’ Bemardo (Ca’ Foscari University). The aim of this workshop was to foster interactions among researchers and practitioners in Natural Language Processing (NLP) by taking a Cognitive Science perspective.

The workshop attracted 33 papers from 23 countries worldwide. Jared Bernstein, (Stanford University, USA) gave the keynote speech entitled “Benchmarking Automated Text Correction Services”. The papers and posters presented at the workshops covered an impressive range of approaches ranging from linguistics, cognitive and computer science study to language processing.

We would like to thank the authors for providing the content of the programme. We are grateful to the programme committee who worked very hard in reviewing papers and providing feedback for authors. We would like also to thank Ca’ Foscari University for hosting the workshop and for their help with housing and catering. Special thanks to Rocco Tripodi for his help with the administrative support of NLPCS website. Thanks in particular to de Gruyter for their support and help in publishing the proceedings.

We hope that you will find this program interesting and thought-provoking and that the workshop will provide you with a valuable opportunity to share ideas with other researchers and practitioners from institutions around the world.
