Acknowledgments

We would like to extend our appreciation to American Cinema Editors (ACE) for providing the opportunity and support for the internship program upon which this book is based. Bill Gordean, A.C.E. began this mentorship program in the early 1990s, and we have been at the helm for nearly two decades—expanding, teaching, and encouraging with renewed annual vigor. Many thanks go to Jenni McCormick and the tireless ACE staff for their dedication and time.

Special thanks to Alan Heim, A.C.E., Sabrina Plisco, A.C.E., Matt Chesse, A.C.E., Mark Helfrich, A.C.E., Troy Takaki, A.C.E., and Stephen Lovejoy, A.C.E. for allowing us to include their words from the 2009 lecture series. The advice you shared helps pave the way for the next generation.

Others have been leaned on for advice and expertise. Many thanks to Lauren Pendergrass for editing our chapter on getting ready to online. Our deepest gratitude goes to Marissa Mueller and Jered Zalman for their insight on assisting in reality television. A special nod of appreciation to Carsten Kurpanek for creating templates of paperwork necessary for the cutting room. Daniel Nussbaum, Jered Zalman, Addison Donnell, Dillon Thomas, and Ashley Miller meticulously helped with transcriptions. Much gratitude goes to Larry Jordan for his technical advice.

We offer our deepest thanks to Tina Hirsch, A.C.E., Chris Cooke, A.C.E., and to so many other fellow editors and assistants who have participated in the internship program. Their loyalty to the endeavor of embracing the newly arrived assistant editors goes beyond the call of duty.

And last but not least, to our editor, Dennis McGonagle, thank you for your faith in our book, Make the Cut, and for paving our virginal journey into the world of publishing. It has been a seamless enterprise.
