An overview of stories

A story is structured as a timeline of slides. Each slide consists of one or more elements (snapshots, text, images, and shapes) that are combined to tell you something about the data and your analysis of it. A slide is a part of a story and corresponds to a screen, or in other words, a collection of text, images, and other objects. A snapshot is an image (a table, graph, or key performance indicator (KPI)) that represents the state of a data object at a certain point in time.

The process to create and publish a story is shown in the following workflow:

The user does the following:

  • Uses the application, applying filters and getting insights
  • Collects insights when they find something that should be added to their story (graphs, tables, or KPIs)
  • Creates a story
  • Adds snapshots to the story by adding one or more slides
  • Adds explanatory text, images, or other decorations
  • Uses the story to make a presentation or exports it as a PDF or presentation form
