A drill-down dimension allows you to go deeply into several dimensions on the same chart. Each time that you select an item in the chart, it will show you the items from the next dimension, following the order of the fields you selected when creating the dimension.

Now, we will add a bar chart with a drill-down dimension with the fields CategoryName and ProductName.

To create the Drill-down dimension for the category and products, follow these steps:

1. Click on the Master items button to open the Master items pane.
2. Click on the Dimensions heading to expand it.
3. Click on Create new to open the Create new dimensions dialog.
4. Select Drill-down as the dimension type.
5. Select the CategoryName field to add it to the Field list.
6. In the search box, type product. Here, you will only see fields with the word product in the name.
7. Select the ProductName field to add it to the field list.

8. Set the Name to ProductDrill. The configuration dialog will look like what's shown in the following screenshot:

9. Click on the Add dimension button.
10. Click on the Done button to close the dialog.
11. A new dimension with the name ProductDrill will be added to the Master items:

Next, we will create the bar chart with the drill-down dimension. To create the chart, follow these steps:

1. Click on the Charts button on the asset panel, which is on the left-hand side of the screen.
2. Click on the bar chart and drag and drop it into the empty space at the left-hand side of the sheet.
3. Click on Add dimension and select ProductDrill in the Dimension section.
4. Click on Add Measure and select Sales $ in the Measures section.

5. The bar chart will look like this:

6. Click on Done to enter the visualization mode.
7. Click on the Confections bar and confirm the selection to drill down and show the products of the selected category. The chart will now look like what's shown in the following screenshot:
