In this part of the book, we delve more deeply into the quartet of Business Builder Personalities, focusing on the particular strengths and weaknesses of each one. Each chapter will describe and illustrate the distinct personality of each Builder Type and how each one operates within the context of the five growth dynamics.

As you read the in-depth descriptions and stories in these chapters, pay attention to which Builder Personality Type seems most like you. Does the preliminary self-assessment you did in chapter 1 still feel right? Or do you think you identify more with another Builder Type? Maybe more than one of these chapters describes you. That’s OK—many of our leaders and entrepreneurs identify mostly as one type, but over time develop strengths that are more associated with another type. In fact, in the later chapters of this book, we will show you how you can learn from all of the Builder Personalities and deliberately take on and practice some of their strengths as an explicit way to address some of your own particular weaknesses.

In addition to rich descriptions, the chapters in part 1 include specific suggestions for playing to your strengths, buffering your weaknesses, and developing strategies to become a stronger business builder. We summarize these elements in an at-a-glance format at the end of each of these four chapters:

Chapter 2 The Driver:
Relentless, Commercially Focused, and Highly Confident
Chapter 3 The Explorer:
Curious, Systems-Centric, and Dispassionate
Chapter 4 The Crusader:
Audacious, Mission-Inspired, and Compassionate
Chapter 5 The Captain:
Pragmatic, Team-Enabling, and Direct
