How to use this book

Whilst you may choose to read this book from cover to cover, it is essentially designed as a ‘dip in’ book. You will see that the beginning pages are concerned with the lighting team, followed by essential electricity and how the camera ‘Views’ light. We move through the different types of lights, and their control, to their basic settings for studio and locations. Finally there are examples which will help you to light your different types of production. It is possible to read only the section that interests you at the moment without reference to the other sections.

Having spent many years in the video industry, and taught video production at all levels, we know the difficulty of finding a ‘starter’ book that can be recommended to students. This series of books on the video production process was written for you to fill this need. Use it as you would your own notes – either flick through it until you find the bit that is most relevant at this moment, or read an entire section to give you an overall perspective.

Thank you for buying it. We hope you find it useful and have many happy and successful years in the industry.
