Obviously, a book like this is the product of many people working together, with the support of a number of societal institutions. A great debt of gratitude, then, is due to various people and organizations.

Three great advisers, supporters and critics can no longer be reached by my gratitude but live on in memory: Hilde Himmelweit, Gerald Kline, Herman Wold.

Two groups of friends and colleagues have been instrumental in bringing this book about. In the first place, of course, the group of people who during two decades have been working together within the Media Panel Program, in one capacity or another, for sometimes very long, sometimes shorter, periods of time. Secondly, all those who in a number of ways acted as experts, critics, advisers, friends and supporters.

Without the generous support of a number of research councils, foundations, universities and authorities, there would have been no research programme at all.

My sincere thanks go to all these friends, colleagues and institutions. They are as follows:

People active within the Media Panel Program
Ulla Johnsson-Smaragdi, Inga Sonesson and Sven Windahl; Ulf Dalquist, Bertil Flodin, Per Hägred, Gudrun Hardardottir, Robert Hawkins, Elias Hedinsson, Ingrid Hojerback, Gunilla Jarlbro, Thomas Johansson, Annelis Jönsson, Per Källström, Inger Linderholm, Fredrik Miegel, Gunnel Norén, Gunilla Persson, Suzanne Pingree, Keith Roe, Birgitta Sandborg.
