What’s in This Chapter

• Fifteen tools in thumbnail format for reference

• Refer to Chapter 16 for instructions to download full-size tools

Robust, effective orientation requires a mastery of the overall comprehensive onboarding plan as well as a firm grasp on the hundreds of details that make up the orientation process. Because so much of the information that needs to be shared with new employees is specific to the organization and its industry, tailoring the content is essential in delivering successful orientation training. This chapter includes workshop tools with sample game sheets, templates, and charts that will make customizing the participant materials for the organization’s specific needs and circumstances much easier.

There is also a supervisor’s toolkit complete with sample messaging and checklists to help you streamline the supervisor-led, departmental orientation process and ensure that nothing is overlooked and forgotten. Managers have many responsibilities and may find it challenging to develop, implement, and maintain a new employee orientation program. Line managers and supervisors, in particular, are so busy with the day-to-day operation of their departments that they may be reluctant to devote the time necessary to plan and prepare for a new employee. Share the Supervisor’s Toolkit (here and Chapter 11) with your supervisors and managers to help them fulfill their responsibilities in helping them transition their new employees into the new work environment.
