Concluding Remarks

Keep in mind that there is no such thing as the perfect instrument for your organization’s needs. Some are obviously more thorough and accurate than others, and a few may match up well with your organization’s profile and goals. But feedback instruments, no matter how carefully constructed, are influenced by when they were developed and who developed them. Because change is part of doing business, the social and economic factors affecting the workplace and your needs will inevitably vary over time. No instrument can be effective under all conditions. If, however, you have carefully evaluated the available instruments using the criteria described in this chapter, you can be confident that you are using an instrument that is well suited to your purpose.
