Introduction
There is no single technique for achieving
excellence at work. High performance is attained
through a combination of understanding yourself
and your strengths and limitations; knowing
what you want to achieve; and ensuring that you
are in an environment where you enjoy working
and have some freedom to achieve what you want.
Achieving High Performance gives you the tools
you need to address these areas, and so become
more successful at what you do.
Your route to improvement starts by getting to know
yourself. The more fully you understand yourself,
the more confident you will be. By understanding
and playing to your strengths, you have a better
chance of succeeding at your endeavors. Of
course, you need to develop skills and knowledge
in your chosen field. There are some skills, such as
managing your time and presenting, that will apply
whatever you are doing and wherever you are doing
it. These are like the tools in your work box, and the
key to acquiring and honing them is to practice.
To become more effective at work, you need to be
creative and confident, to communicate and listen
well, and to make difficult decisions. If you can
master these sometimes intangible skills, you
can really differentiate yourself from other people.
Finally, achieving high performance is about
developing your skills further into management
and leadership, broadening your horizons, and
making use of what other people have to offer you.
