Introduction to the second edition

The three books that make up the ‘Basics’ series are intended to help you to understand the basic principles of video production, sound and lighting. Although the basic principles cannot change, two or three years are a long time in technology. The revisions in this second edition have remained deliberately equipment non-specific because ‘basics are basics’. We have now included references to the technology advances that have affected production and you will see that, with a good understanding of the basic principles, your transfer of learning to new ideas and equipment levels is easier than you thought!
