Appendix A
Example Marketing Handout

A marketing handout will need to be created to support the sale of the business. The example that follows was created for the sale of Jim’s Bakery. The handout is a marketing document sometimes referred to as a “slick.” It should be limited to a single page and printed on high-quality semi-glossy paper. Optionally it could also be created to be produced using a trifold format.

It can be freely handed out to anyone who express an interest in purchasing this type of business without the use of an NDA. Some discretion should still be used when you distribute it by only handing it to someone who is likely to be a qualified buyer. The handout provides a general description without specifically identifying the business. The goal is to notify people about the potential opportunity and provide enough information to motivate qualified buyers to request further information. In most sales, this document will be created by your sales agent. Contact information for the licensed sales agent that is handling the sale, along with the name and address of their business, must be clearly shown. Your agent will hand these out when needed, but you will also need to have some available.
