Acknowledgments

A lot of people helped to make this book a reality. We would like to thank them for all their help.

We would like to start by thanking Scott Abel, who put us in touch with New Riders Publishing, then stayed on to act as a technical editor.

We would like to thank our reviewers Brenda Parr, Kelly McCurry, Tim Wilkes, and Charles Cantrell who put in much time and effort to review our early drafts, give pointed advice on how they could be improved, often—in fact, usually—under very tight deadlines. We worked with each of our reviewers on some aspect of a unified content strategy and it’s through their experience in all aspects of the task and their ongoing role in the “trenches” that they were able to provide invaluable feedback. Brenda Parr was one of our clients who kept saying, “When are you going to write that book?,” so when the book was becoming a reality she was the first person we called to ask for help with the review. Kelly McCurry and Tim Wilkes, after working toward unified content in their corporate jobs, went on to form Scratchcat Communication Consulting, a company specializing in documentation and online content solutions. Charles Cantrell, who was very involved in his company’s DTD design, helped to review the design section from the implementation perspective.

We would like to thank our technical editors Scott Abel and Seth Maislin. Scott continually pressed us to identify why people should be reading this section and how it would affect them, and Seth pressed us to ensure that every detail was clear and complete.

We would like to thank Charles Cooper, a multi-talented senior consultant in The Rockley Group, for creating all the illustrations for the book.

Finally, this wouldn’t have been possible without the team from New Riders Publishing. We would like to thank Linda Bump (Senior Acquisitions Editor) who believed in the book and worked hard to have it approved, even though it didn’t exactly fit in the current offering. We’d also like to thank Chris Zahn (Development Editor) who guided us through the book publishing process and nudged us about deadlines.

Ann Rockley

I would like to thank my family and friends who rolled their eyes when I kept saying “After the book…” but continued to wait patiently for that day.

I’d also like to thank Gord Graham who gave me a lot of advice on getting a book published. I would like to thank Strategic Coach, a program for entrepreneurs that I have been involved in for many years that has helped me to consistently focus on goals and identify my organization’s unique methodology. I would also like to thank Angela Sutcliffe, my business coach, who helps to coach me on issues relating to the business, but also kept me on track with my major focus during this time—the book. I’d like to thank Laurel Simmons, who supplied ongoing support throughout.

And last, but not least, I would like to thank my co-authors, Pamela Kostur and Steve Manning. The Rockley Group works on most projects as a team, with team members focusing on their own areas of expertise, and supporting everyone wherever it is needed. The book was no different. We worked on the book collaboratively, making it a complete and comprehensive whole, sharing our insights and knowledge and feedback.
