Case Study 8: Implementing Hub and Spoke Topologies with EIGRP

This case study provides configurations for the implementation of hub and spoke for Customer A sites by the SP, as shown in Figure 14-46.

Figure 14-46. Case Study 8: Topology

EIGRP is configured as the PE-CE routing protocol on the routers. The EIGRP AS number is configured as shown in Figure 14-46.

The configuration procedure to implement EIGRP PE-CE follows the same implementation as the other hub and spoke implementations in which two interfaces between the hub PE router and hub CE router in two separate VRFs are used. However, unlike the implementation of hub and spoke with BGP (discussed in Chapter 6, “Implementing BGP in MPLS VPNs”) or OSPF (discussed in Case Study 7), no special configuration is required except the appropriate routing information configuration and exchange on all routers following regular EIGRP PE-CE configuration methodology.

Configurations for the CE and Spoke PE Routers

Figure 14-47 illustrates the configurations on the different CE and spoke PE routers to implement the hub and spoke implementation for Customer A in accordance with Figure 14-46. IP addressing has been omitted for brevity.

Configurations for the Hub PE Router and Verification of EIGRP Hub and Spoke Operation

Figure 14-48 shows the final configuration for the hub PE router to implement hub and spoke for Customer A in accordance with Figure 14-46. The verification steps are also shown in Figure 14-48.
