Acknowledgments

From Joe:

Being an author has many advantages, not the least of which is being able to publicly thank the important people in your life when you finish a book.

I’d like to thank my family for being…well, my family. A big thanks also to Denise Bay and her family for being a great “second family.”

Thanks to all of my friends who listen to me talk about Linux and computers without obvious signs of boredom. It’s greatly appreciated! Bonnie, Suzanne, Jason, Pete, Bevin, Barb, you’re all great.

A huge thanks to the Linux Magazine folks, Adam, Lara and Bob the “Big Beer Guy.” (You thought I’d forgotten?) It’s huge fun working with you all. Also a big thanks to the folks at UnixReview.com, for being great to work with.

I’ve met a lot of people in the GNU/Linux Community in the last three years who are very important to me. Even though I don’t get to see or talk to you regularly, I’m glad that I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with GNU/Linux over the last several years.

From Dee-Ann:

I would first like to thank the members of the IP Multicast mailing list available from www.stardust.com/multicast for their great help as I was trying to familiarize myself with IP Multicasting. It’s thanks to them that I was able to cover some of the subtleties of what protocols are used when, and so on. I’d also like to thank the folks who peerreviewed what I intended to cover before the writing started.Their comments helped to shape much of what you find in this book.

Additional thanks go to the technical reviewers who helped keep me on my toes throughout the project. It’s their job not only to keep me from looking silly with putting large mistakes in print, but also to make sure that you, the reader, get the most benefit possible from the pages within.

Last but not least, I would like to thank my co-authors, Joe and Ron. I was ill through a good part of this project, and after a long search we brought these two fine gentlemen in to ensure that not only was the book finished in a timely manner, but that it remained the best possible quality and usefulness to the readers. This book is far greater than the sum total of its parts thanks in part to their hard work.

From Ron:

Special thanks to the technical reviewers, Brad Harris and Joseph Hamm.

From Dee-Ann, Ron, and Joe:

We would like to thank Chris Zahn, the Development Editor, and Ann Quinn, the Acquisitions Editor, for the professional insight and diligence that they showed in working to create the book you are reading. Thanks to rest of the team at New Riders who also helped make this book possible—Stephanie Wall, Kristy Knoop, Chrissy Andry, Joy Dean Lee, and Ron Wise.
