GDAL/OGR

Django's built-in geospatial support requires the use of code libraries available from the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo). The GDAL library, which includes OGR, handles vector and raster datasets. It must be installed (see Chapter 5Vector Data Analysis, and Chapter 6Raster Data Processing, for more details on using it for analysis).

If it is not already installed, use the OSGeo4W installer available at: https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/. Select the correct installer for your machine. The installer will also install QGIS and GRASS and other open source geospatial programs. Download and run the installer and place the output files on your local drive. This file path (for example: C:OSGeo4w) will be important when modifying the Windows environment variables.

Find installation instructions for configuring GeoDjango for Linux and macOS from the Django project documentation here:
https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/2.0/ref/contrib/gis/install/.
